Five tips for healthy hair growth

When it comes to hair care, one of the most commonly asked questions is how to help your hair grow longer. There’s no one quick fix to create fast hair growth, but there are a number of different things you can do to help encourage your hair’s growth over a period of time.

Step away from the shampoo

Washing your hair a little bit less often is a great way to help your hair produce plenty of natural oils. If you wash your hair on a daily basis, try cutting back to 2-3 times a week. The oils produced naturally by your scalp help to hydrate and condition your hair in between washes - shampoo can strip your hair of these oils and dry out your scalp.

Visit the hairdressers more often

It’s not just an old wives’ tale - getting your hair cut more often does help with the appearance of growth. Getting a regular trim doesn’t actually make your hair grow any quicker, but by removing the split ends your hair appears healthier and thicker right to the bottom of each strand. This helps your hair retain all its growth, without splitting and breaking off at the ends.

Change the way you brush

If you frequently brush your hair straight out of the shower, consider waiting until its dry to tackle it. When your hair is wet, it’s much more prone to breakage, so if you have to brush when it’s still damp make sure you’re using the right kind of brush or comb to lessen the risk. When brushing your hair, always start from the bottom and be gentle when adding more until you get all the way up to the roots.

Also, brushing right before bed is a great way to distribute all the natural oils from your scalp throughout your hair, letting them soak in and nourish your hair while you sleep.

Nourish your body, as well as your hair

What you put into your body has a huge impact on your hair’s health. Ensure you’ve got plenty of protein, calcium and other crucial vitamins and minerals within your diet to help your hair be the healthiest it can be.

Taking supplements can really help with this - particularly ones that contain vitamins like biotin. If you’re not sure which to choose, there are specific combinations made for hair, nails and skin.

Don’t overstyle

Hairdryers, straighteners, curlers or other ways of heat styling can be extremely damaging to your hair, causing dryness and breakage. Limit styling with heat as much as possible - but whenever you use any styling tools, just ensure you’re protecting your hair with quality products.
